The Design for the Elderly project served as a key component of the Design Thinking course within my Masters program. This project comprised a two-fold approach, starting with individual and group work during the final stage. The primary objective was to apply the principles of Design Thinking to address a specific challenge faced by the elderly population. The process involved conducting extensive secondary research, followed by engaging in primary research through interviews and observations.
During the group stage, our innovation revolved around redesigning the car key and dashboard interface, ensuring a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. By employing thoughtful design principles, we aimed to enhance the ease of use and overall usability of these components for the elderly demographic.
Our research yielded valuable insights into the needs, traits, and problems faced by the elderly, as well as existing solutions and benefits. In addition to desk research, we conducted first-hand research by conducting interviews with three elderly individuals. This approach helped us gain a better understanding of the elderly population and their daily lives, ultimately informing the creation of a persona to guide further development efforts.
